The contrast of the orange and green in this photo is nicely done. The green background amplifies the color of the flower much more than it would with any other background. I don't think this same kind of effect would have been as useful with even a related background like blue. But I haven't seen the photo in blue, so it may work. Obviously, a red background or orange-related background just wouldn't work. The flower would not work.
